Why?
Too many flame wars that a desktop enviroment is better than the other (in Linux)
or that an operating system is better than other (WinXP vs Vista vs Windows 7) made us
to write this tiny application so that anyone can test his/her hardware under different
operating systems and desktop managers. Enjoy!
Features
- It is written in Java so it works on Windows, Linux, Solaris and any Java powered system
How to use it ?
Run the test to see how fit your system is. Then you can shut down services, tune performance and test it again.
In Linux you can play with different desktop enviroments (KDE 3.5, KDE 4.3, Gnome, Xfce, etc) to see your system's performance within each
of those enviroments. (it's actually very funny).
For Windows systems you can test your hardware with WinXP, Vista or Windows 7.

What tests will be performed?
There are 5 tests the application will perform
- Test 1 - Writes - writes a lot of data into a file
- Test 2 - Reads - reads the file created by writes test
- Test 3 - Copy - copy a lot of data between file
- Test 4 - Computation - does a lot of computations
- Test 5 - UI - creates a lot of windows and then destroy them.
How score is computed?
Each test will get a score. In the end we will compute a weighted mean
of all the scores.
The UI test was made most important (weight 6) as these days most of the enviroment we work into is a GUI (windows based).
